10....The Idea
So you think you’ve got a great idea?

A new wonder product? Well done you! That’s the first step, but don’t worry if you haven’t, even if you just like the idea of running your own business it’s a start.
Word of warning coming up….
WAIT!!!!!
The key in that opening paragraph is “it’s a start”
There is a lot of hard work ahead in determining whether this idea is going to fly. There is no one who is going to tell you that your idea is brilliant and you will be mega wealthy in two months…well there might be someone, but don’t listen to them (I’m talking mostly about wives, husbands etc here….really, they just like to make you feel special)
Here are a few things to consider at this stage.
1. Unlike applying for a regualr job, you are hiring yourself and therefore you are the one deciding if you have the necessary skills and attributes to be successful.
2. Ask yourself what it is you are hoping to achieve.
3. Do not underestimate how difficult it is going to be, especially for the first year or two.
4. Think about taking a course or two in small business management.
5. Don't be dissauded just because you dont have a bright idea. Look at other peoples ideas, how can they be altered, adapted? Try looking at the bottom of this page for some great online business ideas.
6. Sit down with a friend or family member and brainstorm your ideas if you have a few. Select your favourite and concentrate on that one. Remember if you are doing this with a spouse, now is NOT the time for them to be stroking your ego.
The only person who can tell you if you are onto something is you! You are going to need some help, some guidance, some reassurance, but ultimately it ALL rests on your shoulders! Scared yet? No? good….Yes? better!
If you're struggling for ideas we have created a page full of other peoples business ideas. These programmes are not free, but you might just spot one that sparks the imagination. Just go to Business Ideas and follow the various links.
